This once vacant space started out as the perfect blank canvas for YMM Dance Company with its wall to wall concrete floors and an incredible number of windows flooding the area with natural light. We strived to maintain a bright and simple aesthetic by implementing a combination of refined industrial elements and natural wood details to ensure the space was modern yet inviting. With a balance of textured grey concrete floors, dark stained + natural maple millwork, white walls + cabinetry, minimally inspired lighting, and furniture + decor to reflect the company branding we achieved a cohesive design that lets the dancers remain in the spotlight. Owner and Artistic Director Melinda wanted visitors + family members to be able to watch dance classes from the comfort of both the guest lounge and kids corner, so we added large viewing windows that also capitalize on the natural light and expand sight lines. We maximized the floor plans function down to the last inch to work with existing structure and include a guest lounge, reception area, kids corner, 1 large dance studio, 2 small dance studios, a stretching zone in the corridor, 2 change rooms, a lunchroom, and 2 barrier free washrooms.
